Hello,
I have just recently finished my Trial Account time. I am a true newbie who has come from a couple of different MMOs and landed here, and have been trying to decide whether or not I should make it a longer term run.
The handling of this situation makes me think that CCP is not a company I can trust. Here are my concerns:
1. Developers competing directly with paying customers but using developer powers to win the battles.
2. Alliances being created and controlled by the developers to destroy or impair the gameplay of paying customers.
3. Refusal by CCP to punish people implicit in acts of cheating.
This is not a game if there aren't any rules. The fact that people are saying "Just go out and shoot them if you don't like them" is a joke. What is the point of engaging in a game or competition if I know my opponent is going to have his developer friends load him up a new fleet of ships (if the devs even allow me to kill them in the first place...)?
How does having an alliance full of cheaters benefit the game? Last week I was trying to decide whether or not I should go down the path of ratting, PVP, or industrial/manu, and basically getting a feel for the complexities of the game.
Today I am trying to decide whether:
1. I should quit and never look at this site again. 2. Join the entire rest of the game in killing the cheater alliances.
This is a lose/lose scenario for CCP. I shouldn't have to police their game for them. If the devs cheat and hand a thousand sectors of space to these guys, I shouldn't have to be involved in taking them back one by one. Fix your game, delete the cheaters and disband the cheater alliances. It isn't that hard.
If the Band of Brothers and the rest of the Southern Cheater Alliance is not removed from power permanently then the game has no purpose and it will be a ghost town with a few thousand people. If they are removed from power and crushed then CCP will be saddened, since it appears the many of them were CEO's or in positions of power within these organizations.
The only real win solution is if CCP mans-up, bans the officers and disbands the corps and alliances that gained from these things. At least then the other 149,000 people who play would know CCP is serious about maintaining a level playing field.
As a semi-related aside, I managed to find some threads complaining about how overpowered the Titans are at the moment. I think it is interesting that the devs are stalling any bug fixes on these things. I wonder how many non-cheating non-dev alliances will have to build them before it gets nerfed?
I will be watching for a while to see a few items of note. If CCP comes down hard on the cheaters I would probably re-enable the account. If the entire-game-army is allowed by the devs to kill off the cheater alliances then I might come back.
If I start reading reports of battles where the devs are healing the cheater alliance ships in combat or loading fleets for them I will not come back. I will be looking both here and on third party (read: non-censored) sites as well.
Thank you for your time,
Minrog
